RC Vehicle

This course will give people the chance to create and control scaled models of vehicles. With a mix of electronics, mechanics, programming and mechatronics, this course will offer something for everyone.


Audience

People interested in mechanics, electronics, mechatronics and programming.

Goals

To understand the engineering put into making a vehicle, even if it doesn't carry any passengers. How receivers and transmitters work alongside mechanical parts and electronical parts.


2 - 4 weeks Ref: ECRC

Week 1

Day 1
Introduction

The student will perform a simulated interview practice and learning the outcomes of the program. Health and safety rules at work.

Day 2
Single layer PCB Design

The student will learn how to create and design their own electronic circuit boards using a single layer board.

Day 3
Schematic design

The students will translate their made PCBs into schematics to understand the function of the board they have created and document the production.

Day 4
3D Modelling

The students will make 3D models on Blender for their RC Vehicle (Car, Excavator, Boat, etc).

Day 5
3D Printing

The student will print their 3D models to be able to start assembling all parts.

Week 2

Day 1
PCB Production

The student will take their PCB design and make their PCBs on copper plates. Once this part is done, they will continue to solder all components, following their schematics.

Day 2
Assembly

The student will start with the assembly of the RC vehicle, checking that all parts are the correct size and they will hold forces or impacts.

Day 3
Programming

The student will program their RC vehicle with the designated controller. Taking into consideration speeds, motor functions and power units.

Day 4
Testing

The student will put their design to the test. We will make sure everything works and that the RC vehicle is safe to hit the roads.

Day 5
Debugging and correcting

The student will correct mistakes if there are any present and make improvements to their model.
