Electronics

This course offers students a hands-on opportunity to explore different techniques in electronic production and design to create practical products.

Audience

Students in electronics, mechatronics and electrics. People interested in putting their creative and technical skills together.

Goals

To understand how PCBs are made, designed and soldered. What methods are used and what new methods are available.

1 - 2 weeks Ref: ECDC

Week 1

Day 1
Introduction

The student will perform a simulated interview practice and learning the outcomes of the program. Health and safety rules at work.

Day 2
Single layer PCB design

The student will learn how to create and design their own electronic circuit boards using a single layer board.

Day 3
Double layer PCB design

The student will learn how to create and design double sided PCB boards, taking into consideration layouts and sizes.

Day 4
Schematic design

The student will translate their made PCBs into schematics to understand the function of the board they have created and document the production.

Day 5
PCB etching the old way

The student will take their designs and produce the PCBs with conventional copper plates and photosensitive copper plates using the draw on methods.

Week 2

Day 1
PCB etching the modern way

The student will take their designs and produce the PCBs with conventional copper plates and photosensitive copper plates using laser engravers and CNC routers.

Day 2
Soldering practice with THT

The student will learn how to solder properly using Through-Hole Technology.

Day 3
Soldering practice with SMDs

The student will learn how to solder properly using Surface Mounted Devices.

Day 4
Wiring and programming

The student will wire and program the circuit boards to fulfill the set operation on the project schematic.

Day 5
Testing and debugging

The student will fix false soldering points, short circuits and other faults in our circuit board. Cleaning up the board to present the final product.
